Herbert William hosted a Grand Designs experience for a second time on Tuesday 16th April. Guests were treated to a day of wine and fine dining with food from professional chef Sven Hanson Britt in the newly fitted kitchen showroom at Herbert William.
The guests enjoyed a three-course lunch cooked by professional Master chef Sven-Hanson Britt on our showroom’s live-selection of Miele appliances. Sven educated us about the health benefits of Spelt and gave us useful cooking tips as he prepared the gourmet feast. The starter was Smoked Trout with a Jersey New potato warm salad, followed by a mouthwatering lamb main dish. The lamb was cooked in the Miele warming drawer at 55 degrees and then sliced, seared with a special balsamic rosemary and thyme sauce. This was served with steamed asparagus and spinach garnished with fermented black garlic! The dish demonstrated how delicately the Miele steam oven cooked the spinach as the leaves were perfectly cooked but remained intact. Impressive!
Guests were able to talk about their build project ideas and share tips over their gourmet meal.
For dessert Sven made a green tea infused ice cream served with popcorn like deep fried black rice on a caramel sauce made from reduced spelt. Watch the video to see the black rice “pop”
Sat around the natural oak table, Jan Sherwood from local textile designers Sherwood and Morgan surrounded our guests with bespoke fabrics and gave tips on kitchen finishing touches to interior design techniques. Many useful tips and ideas emerged from the day’s discussions.
All of our guests found the day invaluable in creative ideas and moving forward with planning their dream kitchen.
Herbert William plans to host further Grand Design days in 2019.

Herbert William’s showroom is open to the public from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday. Herbert William recommends visitors phone ahead if they wish to speak with a designer, but just show up if more interested in getting a feel for what we have to offer.
